This kind of refutes (or complicates) a theory I found in The Anatomy of Disgust, that links actors on big screens with Swift’s Brobdingnagian’s skin condition. Being so large, he could see their skin up close and saw it for the festering mess it was. Exactly as the Lilliputians had judged Gulliver’s skin while he himself found them exquisitely perfect by virtue of their minuteness. But on-screen, lighting and make-up conspire to render celluloid Brobs with Lilliputian skin perfection unblemished and whole.
