Two Patents Good, Four Patents Better

One week ago, Obama vetoes ITC’s decision to ban Apple products for refusing to pay to licence Samsung’s patents concerning basic radio communication between mobile phones. Apple responds to this action blocking enforcement of a patent ruling against it:

We applaud the Administration for standing up for innovation in this landmark case … Samsung was wrong to abuse the patent system in this way.

This week, after being ordered by a US Federal Court to reconsider its initial decision, the ITC issues a ban on Samsung products for refusing to pay to licence Apple’s patents covering a headphone plug and how to swipe fingers on a screen. Apple responds to this action enabling enforcement of a patent ruling for it:

Protecting real innovation is what the patent system should be about.
