{"id":1101,"date":"2002-07-23T19:52:00","date_gmt":"2002-07-23T23:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.meehawl.com\/Blogfiles-wp\/?p=1101"},"modified":"2002-07-23T19:52:00","modified_gmt":"2002-07-23T23:52:00","slug":"neturei-karta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meehawl.com\/Blogfiles\/2002\/07\/23\/19\/52\/neturei-karta\/","title":{"rendered":"Neturei Karta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was intrigued to read this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/israel\/Story\/0,2763,759349,00.html\">long ac<\/a><a href=\"..\/Webstore\/Israel%20Anti-Zionism%20Anti-Semitism\/Unorthodox%20orthodox.html\">count<\/a> of interviews with representatives from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netureikarta.org\/\">Neturei Karta<\/a>, a group of orthodox Jews that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netureikarta.org\/what_is_the_neturei_karta.htm\">oppose Zionism<\/a>. They are quite overtly political and activist, staging counter-demonstrations at pro-Israel rallies and the like, even at the cost of occasional violence against themselves. <\/p>\n<p>They <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington-report.org\/backissues\/1196\/9611040.htm\">don&#8217;t usually get <\/a><a href=\"..\/Webstore\/Israel%20Anti-Zionism%20Anti-Semitism\/Neturei%20Karta,%20Shunned%20by%20Media,%20Makes%20Jewish%20Anti-%20Zionism%20Known.htm\">a lot of press<\/a>, which is why they hadn&#8217;t really registered with me before  My problem is that while some of their policies align roughly with my own, their reasoning is based on some very fundamentalist religious doctrine &#8211; and this sort of thing usually raises my hackles. So my multilemma is this: legitimate and worthy group, overly popularized Palestinian patsies, self-hating media-generated anti-Semitic stereotypes, or just plain irrelevant Sky God Kooks (<i>file under Flat Earthers<\/i>)?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, when you have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nowarforisrael.com\/articles\/bush_israeli_advisors.html\">kooks of the other persuasion<\/a> in prominent positions then all hell breaks loose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was intrigued to read this long account of interviews with representatives from Neturei Karta, a group of orthodox Jews that oppose Zionism.
