The fact that US investigators have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/afghanistan\/story\/0,1284,665939,00.html\">secretly transferring some of its prisoners to countries that routinely practice torture<\/a>, including notable Axis of Evil states such as Syria, has been <a href=\"..\/Webstore\/Patriot%20Act\/US%20sends%20suspects%20to%20face%20torture.html\">known for some time<\/a>. Indeed, in some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insightmag.com\/main.cfm\/include\/detail\/storyid\/253614.html\">deranged sections of the US media<\/a> it&#8217;s become actively fashionable to talk about the <a href=\"..\/Webstore\/Patriot%20Act\/Is%20Torture%20an%20Option%20In%20War%20on%20Terror.html\">&#8220;effectiveness&#8221; of certain torture techniques<\/a>. But this usually goes unexamined, so i was therefore pleased to see a recent <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/\">CSM<\/a><\/i> article explaining the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/2002\/0726\/p01s03-usju.html\">US eagerness to subcontract out torture<\/a> (more good effects of globalization?), and tying the <a href=\"..\/Webstore\/Patriot%20Act\/US%20ships%20Al%20Qaeda%20suspects%20to%20Arab%20states.htm\">US&#8217;s recent decision to join with Syria in opposing a new UN anti-torture regulations<\/a>.
