When asked whether he would he would like the opportunity to venture into town to meet with the locals, during his tour Slaughter replied, ” Are you out of your mind? I can’t stand these Iraqis.” When pressed as to how many Iraqis he had actually met, Slaughter confessed he had never so much as spoken to one of the local civilians. “I can’t stand these Iraqis … all they do is sit around in cafes on little stools drinking tea. That’s stupid”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/a>Hmm, maybe there are a lot of people sitting around because of the >50% unemployment rate in Iraq. Corporal Slaughter should at least be glad that the unemployed are hanging out instead of rioting…<\/p>\n

Wednesday, two people were injured after Iraqi police opened fire on a group of protesters demanding jobs from a U.S.-backed Iraqi security force. The protesters, who threw stones and set two cars on fire, had gone to the Facilities Protection Service station to seek promised jobs. Many of the men, including Hussein, say they paid the Iraqi police there a bribe of 75,000 Iraqi dinar, about $38, for a job.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/a>Apparently, given a 12-month tour of duty in Iraq, each US soldier how has an even 1-in-50 chance of being killed or wounded<\/a>. And that’s based on older statistics. The Iraqi resistance<\/a> is growing both more determined<\/a> and more sophisticated<\/a>…<\/p>\n

Attacks on U.S.-led forces in Iraq have escalated over the past several months, and insurgents are now launching an average of 17 assaults a day against patrols, convoys and bases, an analysis of coalition security reports shows. The data also show insurgents are using more sophisticated tactics and weapons … “The enemy has evolved,” Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, commander of coalition forces in Iraq, said Thursday in Baghdad. “It is a little bit more lethal, little bit more complex, little bit more sophisticated and in some cases a little bit more tenacious.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
