What precedent is there for that?&#8221; &#8230; there are aspects of rebuilding a country that no amount of experience can prepare for.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So for Simone Ledeen and the other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meehawl.com\/Blogfiles\/2004_05_23_WeekArchive.php#'108543494244977187'\">fresh-faced Republican recruits sent to Baghdad<\/a> to re-engineer Iraq&#8217;s social and economic systems, there are no nation-building projects. All the available experience of various United Nations and other international organizations in rebuilding countries &#8212; some like East Timor or Somalia Rwanda in far worse shape than Iraq &#8212; counts for nought. By going it alone, spurning UN involvement and expertise, and then complaining that there are &#8220;no precedents&#8221;, they only advertise their ignorance. I am <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armscontrolwonk.com\/archive\/2004_05_01_index.php\">not the only one<\/a> who noticed this remarkably self-cented absurdity.
