Yet in 1988 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/printedition\/front\/la-na-delay27mar27,1,7963606,print.story?coll=la-headlines-frontpage&#038;ctrack=2&#038;cset=true\">DeLay participated in a decision to withhold life support from his brain-damaged father<\/a>, ensuring his rapid death. His father injured by a runaway tram device, DeLay successfully sued the manufacturers for restitution, then a few years later drafted legislation making it more difficult for people to sue manufacturers of faulty devices. Today DeLay is now &#8216;an outspoken defender of business against what he calls the crippling effects of &#8220;predatory, self-serving litigation&#8221;&#8216;.
