The Sol Invictus cult was a deity that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sol_invictus#Constantine\">Constantine pimped up<\/a> in Rome as a final attempt at a compromise cult that would satisfy Christians, Mithraists, and old-school pagans. The Sol cult bequeathed many of the totems now taken as &#8220;Christian&#8221;: the cross as a religious symbol of triumph over adversity, <strong>Sun<\/strong>day as sacred, and most especially, a birth festival on December 25th (the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Festival_of_the_birth_of_the_Unconquered_Sun\">Festival of the Birth of the Unconquered Sun<\/a>&#8220;). I do admire the early <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labarum\">Roman cross<\/a> motif though&#8230;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labarum\" title=\"Everybody likes crosses, hooked or otherwise...\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.meehawl.com\/Asset\/Sol%20Invictus%20Ring%20%28100-300CE%29.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>If I was feeling especially flush, I could splash out for this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberattic.com\/stores\/albionantiques\/items\/375272\/item375272cyberattic.html\">ceremonial Sol Invictus goblet<\/a>, a veritable steal at only $35,000 or so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been looking for just the right xmas decorations and then I came across this: an original Roman soldier&#8217;s Sol Invictus ring.
