After Washington shut down exports of military hardware to Pakistan in 1985, none other than Harvard-educated Benazir Bhutto concluded a missile deal with the North. Pakistan’s black-marketing lead scientist, AQ Khan, visited North Korea 13 times over the next seven years. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has denied he knew anything about this, but according to former senior Pakistani officials those visits occurred with the knowledge and consent of the military leadership.
