{"id":3191,"date":"2011-05-02T22:22:50","date_gmt":"2011-05-03T05:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.meehawl.com\/Blogfiles\/?p=3191"},"modified":"2011-05-02T22:23:19","modified_gmt":"2011-05-03T05:23:19","slug":"they-got-to-da-choppas-that-were-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meehawl.com\/Blogfiles\/2011\/05\/02\/22\/22\/they-got-to-da-choppas-that-were-working\/","title":{"rendered":"They Got To Da Choppas (That Were Working)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So it seems as if this Democratic President learned one hard lesson from his predecessor Carter&#8217;s aborted attempt to stage a commando raid: if there are helicopters involved, some of them will malfunction. <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Operation_Eagle_Claw\">Carter&#8217;s raid into Iran<\/a> was comprehensively knackered by multiple malfunctioning helicopters. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/03\/world\/asia\/03intel.html?hp=&#038;pagewanted=print\">Obama apparently took no chances, sending four main copters first<\/a>, and two reserve copters on the assumption that something would probably go wrong. One copter did stall, and was apparently blown up by US troops. Which accounts for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2011\/may\/02\/osama-bin-laden-live-blogger\">that liveblogger<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Abbottabad\">Abbottabad<\/a> (apparently a Pakistani version of Carmel, CA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/ReallyVirtual\/status\/64792874516094978\">tweeting<\/a> about <a href=\"http:\/\/paktidings.blogspot.com\/2011\/05\/helicopter-crashed-in-abbottabad.html?spref=tw\">helicopter crashes<\/a>. Around half the time I drive past <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/MCAS_Miramar\">MCAS Miramar<\/a> there are multiple huge copters in the air apparently practicing transport and refuelling in that weird, lumbering way only massive military air craft can manage.
