A new Taliban army is threatening US<\/a> and US-backed forces in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, some of the Northern Alliance warlords are fighting amongst themselves.<\/p>\n

Bush would not be the first person to mistake his initial invasion of Afghanistan<\/a> to be an enduring success. The key seems to be for another world power to support insurgent forces within Afghanistan, and I note that this is now happening with Iran supplying proxy forces there<\/a>, helped by Chinese arms shipments (for which the Bush regime has already sanctioned China<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the US-installed Karzai regime sounds increasingly desperate<\/a>, begging for more troops and a long-term US military presence<\/a>. The Times<\/i> piece talks about 100,000 US troops being required<\/a>.<\/p>\n
