Conspiracy A Go-Go

With all the conspiracy talk currently doing the rounds concerning whether or not individuals or a group within the Bush Gang knew or had definite indications of 9/11 but failed to act on (for whatever reasons) it’s worth considering that in the recent past renegade elements within the US military have planned similar attacks on US cities and civilians in order to generate a patriotic response.

ABC News carried this scary story a while back about how in the early 1960s the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff concocted a plan to force the US into full-scale war with Cuba. They would start with assassinations of Cuban exiles, proceed through the destruction of US and Cuban military assets by “terrorists”, and if that didn’t work, blowing up some shit in US cities.

Now, this is not idle speculation, but national security documents released after 40 years. Having signed off on this loony plan, the JCS presented the plan to Kennedy’s defence secretary, Robert McNamara, in 1962. To their credit, someone in the civilian government had enough sense to reject the plans.
