James Frey Puts the Smackdown on Dave Eggers

So James Frey has one or two things to say about Dave Eggers and his A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius:

A book that I thought was mediocre was being hailed as the best book written by the best writer of my generation … Fuck that. And fuck him and fuck anybody that says that. I don?t give a fuck what they think of me. I?m going to try to write the best book of my generation and I?m going to try to be the best writer … And maybe I?ll fall flat on my fucking face but I?ll fall flat on my fucking face trying to do it.

I await his much ballyhooed A Million Little Pieces with interest… I wonder if it reads as pleasantly as his dialogue.

    Actually the counterspin into para would be: “The breast-fed infants of two mothers with scant nutritional knowledge and poor diet *who happened to be vegan* developed brain abnormalities.

    Not eating animals is no defence againt eating badly. I’m sure we could find “abnormalities” in infants of various women following a variety of diets who did not exercise care about obtaining a full, complementary diet.
