UNOCAL, a Texan oil company, lavishly entertained Taliban Mullahs back in 1997, and promised to start paying them inducements in order to close a lucrative pipeline deal.

John O’Neill, an FBI counter-terrorism expert, resigned last year because of Bush Administration interference in the hunt for Bin Laden. Even CNN is now talking about how last year the White House impeded the FBI’s investigation of Bin Laden. That was before 9/11 of course.

Newly installed Afghan ruler, Hamid Karzai, formerly served as a UNOCAL concultant.

Zalmay Khalilzad, the Bush-nominated special envoy, is another UNOCAL consultant.

It’s been a long and difficult journey for UNOCAL, but I guess we have to applaud their true grit and determination to clinch that deal no matter who they had to talk with to get it done!
