Not Over Till The Fat Lady Bombed
A new Taliban army is threatening US and US-backed forces in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, some of the Northern Alliance warlords are fighting amongst themselves.
Bush would not be the first person to mistake his initial invasion of Afghanistan to be an enduring success. The key seems to be for another world power to support insurgent forces within Afghanistan, and I note that this is now happening with Iran supplying proxy forces there, helped by Chinese arms shipments (for which the Bush regime has already sanctioned China).
Meanwhile, the US-installed Karzai regime sounds increasingly desperate, begging for more troops and a long-term US military presence. The Times piece talks about 100,000 US troops being required.
