Something struck me…

Enron avoided debatable financial shenigans by moving them “off-balance sheet”, devolving them onto subsidiaries.

Enron avoided debatable human rights shenanigans by moving them “off-balance sheet”, devolving them onto subsidiaries.

There seems to be some correlation here. From my humble perspective, it seems like a modus operendi. Piracy (the origin of the meaning of free enterprise, after all) seems to have been coded into Enron’s corporate DNA from its very beginning. This sort of endemic contempt for the rights of others could only have come from the top down, and spread from there like a cancer.
