How Bin Laden Got Away

The Christian Science Monitor (how did a bunch of kooks manage to create such a great paper?) has this excellent account of how Bin Laden and the other Taliban leaders easily eluded the American proxies in Tora Bora — to which foreign papers already refer to as “the failed Tora Bora offensive”.

Apparently, the US-paid Afghans were playing both sides, or all sides, which seems like the smartest thing to do.

The Pentagon has decided to dispense with the untrustworthy Afghan irregulars and send in the 101st and the 10th Mountain. Post-WTC, Bush the Second thinks he can spend US soldiers’ lives without massive political fallout or Vietnam Syndrome and send them in en-masse. Maybe he’s right?
