Ancient Humans Desperately Horny Shock
I for one am not surprised.
Alan Templeton of Washington University in St. Louis used the Geodis java program (that codes for the cladistic nested analysis of the geographical distribution of genetic haplotypes) to pour further cold water on the parallel evolution of homo sapiens.
Interestingly, his analysis also leads away from the apocalyptic total replacement theory. Ancient humans were, it seems, just as promiscuous as moderns and as the migratory pioneers spread outwards from Africa, they happily interbred with the many extant groups of early humans they found.
According to his analysis, an African Diaspora happened multiple times.
Other interesting programs to check out in this oeuvre include PAL (the Phylogenetic Analysis Library), Mesquite, and FORESTER.
