Iraq’s For-Profit Marshall Plan
She of the Zsa Zsa Gabor accent yet razor-sharp intellect, Arianna Huffington, has a nice article explaining some of the US companies that are going to suckle at the Iraqi teat following a ‘successful’ invasion. Apparently, the Bush Gang invoked some obscure emergency powers clause and so none of the reconstruction bids were put out to tender: instead they awarded them with no consultative process to their biggest corporate donors. Another reason for the Brits to realise they are the patsies in this: not a single UK company has yet managed to get its snout into the trough.
