A Fallujah Too Far?
So I mentioned yesterday that US troops in Iraq had been shooting demonstrators again, this time in Fallujah. I see they shot more today. Way to build democracy! Anyway, it turns out that Fallujah is one of those lightning rods for dissent and grievance in Iraq – it has a history of nastiness and atrocity that goes back generations. Meanwhile, King Bush is getting ready for the money shot victory speech: the “end of combat in Iraq” Right. From now on it’s just a matter of crowd control.
Of course, many people will say that these annoying Iraqis are bringing this on themselves… On a side note, it’s almost 33 years to the day since Ohio National Guardsmen gunned down a crowd of protesting US students at Kent State U, killing several. At the time, a majority of US citizens polled believed that the students were to blame for their own homicide and most absolved the soldiers of any blame.
