Picture a Chocolate Brownie Frappuccino, a signature drink of perhaps the most successful retail business ever — the Starbucks coffee shop chain … [it] contains an amazing 870 calories, or the equivalent carbo- and fat-loading of two Big Mac sandwiches … It’s only a matter of time before someone files a lawsuit against Starbucks like the one filed by the guy who claims McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken are responsible for him being a tubbo with heart disease and diabetes. That guy’s case will probably get tossed eventually or a jury will award him $1 or something; a case against Starbucks might have some legs. If cigarette smokers can collect from the tobacco companies by claiming they didn’t know smoking was bad for them, it should be easy to find a jury that will be shocked by the nutritional content of typical Starbucks drinks. It is not a widely publicized detail of the Starbucks “story.”
