Low Intensity
In Iraq, attacks on U.S. troops are occurring at the rate of almost one a day. In Vietnam, Viet Cong attacks so frustrated the U.S. military that hundreds of thousands of troops were brought in to suppress them. Yet the Viet Cong were even more sporadic and random. “The VC fought on average only one day a month,” said former Air Force Lt. Col. Mark Clodfelter, professor of military history at the National War College.
