Mixed Up

Read this, thought of then thought of the former Richmond Surgical Hospital on Brunswick Street in north inner city Dublin. Built in 1900 by British administrators, it was obviously designed for a warmer climate – legend says either Australia or India. It was built on the site of the former Hospital dating from 1803-ish, itself built on the site of an former “Channel Row” nunnery. The Richmond was apparently also briefly known during the Irish Free State as Saint Laurence’s, or Saint Laurence O’ Toole, or Bille Ospideil Lorcain Ui Thuathail, depending on who was speaking.
