Disgraced ex-Horse Lawyer, Bush donor, and now FEMA Chief Michael Brown’s pearls of wisdom…

[Convention Center] We learned about that today [Thursday].

[Uncollected corpses] That’s not been reported to me, so I’m not going to comment.

[Riots] I’ve had no reports of unrest, if the connotation of the word unrest means that people are beginning to riot, or you know, they’re banging on walls and screaming and hollering or burning tires or whatever. I’ve had no reports of that.

[Security] I actually think the security is pretty darn good.

Does the rescue effort first require federal licensing and contract awards? When will these contracts be awarded? After Halliburton commandeers the swamp boats from Florida operators?

When he became President, Clinton not only brought Witt with him, but elevated FEMA to Cabinet level.

Before Witt came along, FEMA was a lackluster agency under abysmal political management. As Donald Kettl of Brookings has written, the old FEMA was a laughing stock: “Every hurricane, earthquake, tornado and flood, the joke went, brought two disasters: one when the event occurred, and the second when FEMA arrived.”

FEMA privatized hurricane disaster recovery planning for New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana. The firms that received the contract are big GOP contributors.
