Expensive Commons

Back from a quick visit to San Francisco. Spoke to some people who confirmed that, yes, “Web 2.0” is indeed causing a massive invlux of cash and hype – although one person into mergers said that the amount of monies being thrown around had shrunk somewhat since last year. Spoke to someone else who said that O’Reilly Media was being incredibly hoity toity about invites to its “Web 2.0 Conferences” in a manner not seen since the snottiness of certain companies during 1999. Apparently, to get a seat at one of those these buzzword clusterfucks requires approval that you are the right sort of people, and will cost you at least $6,000. Quite a charge for a creative “commons”.
